Hankey also reached the last 128 of the England Open singles at the weekend, where he won twice but fell a game short of the Group Two final.

The two-time world champion, who lives in Aqueduct, first whitewashed Mark Renwick and John Hall 4-0, before bowing out to Rhys Hayden 4-2.

The 48-year-old fared better in the national singles tournament, losing the Group Three final 4-1 to capable Dutchman Richard Veenstra.

Hankey won three matches to reach that point, starting with another 4-0 shut-out over Jason Heaver. Gary Stafford was seen off 4-2, before a 4-0 whitewash over Mark Craddock.

'The Count' also reached the last 64 of the previous weekend's International Open, moving on from a first round exit in last month's World Trophy at Lakeside.
