England World Cup win for Huw Taylor
Shropshire rugby ace Huw Taylor is on top of the world after scoring a try for England Under-20s in their World Cup final win over Ireland.
The 20-year-old from Claverley, who played for Bridgnorth from the age of five to 18, helped put England 21-0 up in the first half of Saturday's final.
The match eventually finished 45-21 at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford as Taylor signed off from age group rugby in the perfect possible way.
The second-rower admitted: "It doesn't happen very often! I just got on the end of an off-load.
"It was an odd feeling seeing all your mates running after you but it felt like a big try, so I was really happy."
Taylor, who now plays for Aviva Premiership club Worcester Warriors, helped England U20s to their third World Cup win in four years.
Team captain Harry Mallinder scored two tries, converted five and scored a penalty – with Joe Marchant also weighing in with a brace.
Callum Chick also scored in the first half. Taylor said: "To go down in history as a winner is an unbelievable feeling.
"It's what I've been working towards for the past two years, to play and win the World Cup.
"We just went into it like another game, and we're absolutely ecstatic to go on and win it.
"But it's all Worcester now. Hopefully, I'll get some opportunities and push into the side.
"I'm looking forward to having Worcester to focus on, rather than age group rugby. It's been incredible but I just want to play in the Prem now."
