Mickey Bushell and Ben Rowlings set for Rio
Shropshire wheelchair racing aces Mickey Bushell and Ben Rowlings have been selected to represent Team GB at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
It's the third Paralympics for 26-year-old Bushell, from Telford, and the first for Newport's Rowlings, 20.
Bushell, who was awarded an MBE for his services to athletics in 2013, has claimed gold on the big stage before, winning the 100m T53 class at London 2012.
Four years prior to that, he came away from Beijing with a silver medal.
Last month, he bagged a bronze medal in the 400m T53 class at the IPC European Championships held in Grosseto.
Rowlings will also be in the T53 class in Rio, and will compete in the 100m and 800m races.
Having won three bronze medals at the European Championships, he enters the Paralympics in fine form and hopes to make a big impression.
He said: "I just wanted to get selected to start with, make sure I was on the plane.
"It is my first Paralympics and it hasn't quite sunk in yet as it has been a dream of mine from an early age to compete in the Games.
"In the last few years, it has become a more realistic dream, I have been making sure I'm in the best shape I can be and it's going to be good fun."
Rowlings, who is also a current British record holder over four distances, has been training extensively ahead of Rio.
He said: "I am training two or three times a day, six days a week, and then doing gym sessions at Lilleshall Sports Centre as well.
"I am still only 20 so I have got a lot to learn, but I have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years.
"The guys that I'm going to be up against I have already raced a few times this year, so I feel ready for it.
"I am really looking forward to it, I am going to try and enjoy the experience as much as possible.
"There is no bigger stage, I like being in front of big crowds and when I'm enjoying it, it tends to push me on a bit further and I get good results."
He added: "I want to make the final of both events, I am going to take it step by step but I know on my day that I can be up there with the best in the world."
