It improved the Shropshire thrower's position to 47th on the PDC Order of Merit, while he now sits 70th in the Pro Tour standings. A top 50 finish should secure his World Championship place.

The 26-year-old first toed the oche for the first Players Championship competition at the City West Hotel in Dublin, with two held before the televised World Grand Prix began on Sunday.

Pallett made little headway in Friday's opening event, tumbling out in the first round 6-4 to Chris Dobey. He returned to the same venue more determined for Saturday's second opportunity.

First Pallett dropped just a leg to beat Ryan Palmer 6-1 and enter the money stages, before building on that result with a 6-2 victory over James Wilson.

His most impressive result was a third round whitewash, 6-0 against Dave Ladley, before meeting Steve West for a place in the quarter-finals. West saw him off 6-3.
