The hosts scored nine tries, with all but one coming from their backs, as they won the Midlands Three West (North) Shropshire derby by 48 points.

Tom Dixon and Tim Andrew both scored two each while Alan Jebb, Joe Hearl, Sam Wycherley, Tom Larry-Hertz and George Adams all bagged one.

Hearl also kicked one penalty and six conversions.

Evitts said: "It was a great result and all the lads chipped in. We tried to play in a way that would allow us to use our backs to the full and all our tries except that one at the end were scored by our backs, so we are really happy."

He also praised Hearl's impressive display, which saw him score 20 points.

"He's 17 years old and used to play for our Colts side. He had a very good game and it is good to see young lads coming through the system," said Evitts.

Market Drayton senior coach John Pembridge-Hore said: "We didn't manage the game well enough in the second half especially."

He added that a series of late withdrawals from players, as well as a couple of late arrivals, didn't help their cause.

And he is keen to increase both the size of the squad and competition for players in the coming weeks.

He said: "We have got a big squad, but some of our players are working shifts, weekends or abroad, so it is not necessarily that big a squad come selection time."

The win, Shrewsbury's first of the season, sees them climb to fifth in the division. Drayton are eighth despite two defeats in as many games.

In Midlands Four West (North), there were wins for all three Shropshire sides.

Clee Hill are top of the division after beating Tenbury 42-10 away.

Bishops Castle got their campaign off to a winning start with a 10-7 win at home to Bromyard.

In Division Five West (North), Telford Hornets also kicked off their campaign in style, hammering Birmingham Barbarians 48-0 away.

Stuart McClymont, Matt Evans, Andy Morgan, Mark Cartwright and Stefan Hildred scored one try each, while Gareth Pollard grabbed two. Hildred also added a penalty and five second-half conversions.
