Thriller ends in a draw as Ludlow blow lead - pictures
Ludlow were denied by a last-minute try as they ended up sharing the spoils in a thrilling game at Wolverhampton.
The Linney Men drew 34-34 in the Midlands Two West North, blowing a 27-5 half-time lead.
They started well wnough as they looked to respond from the previous weekend's 72-18 thumping at high-flying Crewe & Nantwich.
Will Norton dummied his way through to score under the posts, before Will Sparrow kicked a penalty, with a team try further extending their lead.
The ball passed several pairs of hands before being finished off by captain Joe Doyle, who ran 40 metres to touch down. All tries were converted by Sparrow.
They were 17-0 up before Wolverhampton replied with an unconverted try after 25 minutes, then Doyle scored his second try after gathering his own kick forward.
Sparrow added the conversion and a penalty before half-time, resuming with an interception to score under the posts which he converted after the break. Wolverhampton mounted a comeback, scoring five tries and converting two to ensure a share of the spoils, with Ludlow's Theo Hodnett sin binned towards the end.
Club spokesman Phil Norton said: "After the Crewe & Nantwich game, we were very pleased with the way the team responded and we did play well.
"We were guilty of trying to protect the lead, which is what cost us the game.
"There were a few more opportunities to open the game up but we chose to kick for position and that proved to be our downfall."
Oswestry sat out a blank weekend in the South Lancashire & Cheshire Division Two and are now preparing to host Bowdon on Saturday.
In National Three League Midlands, Newport were also on the sidelines before visiting Longton as were Whitchurch, who next host Lichfield.
