Market Drayton fired up for final-day shootout
Market Drayton face a winner takes all Midland Division Five West (North) title decider at Hereford tomorrow.
Drayton head down the A49 to tackle Greyhound in a dramatic finale to the campaign. The sides go into the last game of the season both on 40 points but with Greyhound holding pole position thanks to a slightly inferior scoring record.
To make life even more interesting, two promotion places are at stake meaning third-placed Tenbury Wells, who have 36 points, are still in the mix.
Drayton beat Greyhound 29-18 earlier in the season but have generally struggled away from home in the past, partly because their fixtures were the end of the season when Greyhound's strong university links kick into play considerably strengthening their squad.
"It will all be about how we turn up and how well we travel this time," said a Drayton official. " Our motivation all season has been to get out of this division and into a stronger league, so it really is win or bust."
Bridgnorth head to struggling Sandbach tomorrow chasing the victory that will seal their place in National Three Midlands next season.
The All-Blacks will travel in confident mood having overcome a 10-point deficit to beat Peterborough Lions 16-13 last weekend – their fifth successive victory. Sandbach are seven points adrift of Bridgnorth and occupy the final relegation spot.
"It was a massive win against Peterborough which has taken us all the way up to sixth – but we are still only seven points off Sandbach in the relegation zone," said Bridgnorth scrum-half Gareth Bladen. "This is a must-win to confirm our status as a National League team, and we are determined to go there and continue our good run before finishing off at Sheffield."
Ludlow go chasing the bonus point victory that will clinch them the Midlands Three West (North) title tomorrow.
The Linney men host Shropshire rivals Clee Hill with a five-point gap over second-placed Cleobury Mortimer and a far superior points difference. Cleobury will be hoping for an unlikely Ludlow slip up, which would take the title to the final day of the season when the sides meet.
Telford Hornets are at home to Cannock.
