Tom Curran continues fine form as Surrey see off Somerset in T20 Blast
Colin Ackerman struck a six with the final ball of the match to give Leicestershire a thrilling win against Lancashire.
Tom Curran kept his cool once again as Surrey survived Corey Anderson’s brilliance to beat Somerset by four runs in the NatWest T20 Blast.
Two days after Curran bowled a superb final over to secure his side a two-run win, the 22-year-old did it again to deny the visitors an incredible victory.
Surrey posted 181 for seven after losing the toss and looked to be cruising to victory when Somerset were 106 for eight, but Anderson produced a masterclass to leave the visitors needing 12 from the final over.
The New Zealand all-rounder hit four from the second delivery but was run out attempting a second from the next, departing for 81 from 45 balls.
Tom Curran gave up just two singles from the next three balls to secure a second-straight win to start the competition.
Chasing 174 to win, after England duo Liam Livingstone (48) and Jos Buttler (39) impressed for the hosts, Colin Ackerman hit an unbeaten 62 and, with two runs needed from the final ball, clinched victory with a six.
Holders Northamptonshire got their first win of this year’s competition by beating 2016’s runners-up Durham by six wickets.
Jack Burnham’s unbeaten 53 led Durham to 161 for seven but Ben Duckett smashed 72 at the top of the order for the visitors.
Duckett departed with 29 needed from 20 deliveries and the Steelbacks clinched victory with four balls to spare.
Colin Ingram smashed 101 off just 47 balls as Glamorgan eased to an 18-run victory against Sussex.
Ingram’s unbeaten knock – the quickest ton in Glamorgan’s history – was aided by Jacques Rudolph’s 49 as the visitors compiled 198 for three.
Ingram then took two wickets as Sussex fell well short, despite Luke Wright responding with a 52-ball century of his own.
Daniel Bell-Drummond hit an unbeaten 90 as Kent opened their campaign by beating Essex by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.
Bell-Drummond enjoyed big partnerships with Joe Denly (32) and Sam Northeast (33).
Varun Chopra (47) and Ravi Bopara (45) had led Essex to 166 for eight batting first.
