British hurdler Andrew Pozzi has dismissed any suggestions he is after London redemption ahead of next month’s World Championships.

The European 60m indoor champion is ready to return to the London Stadium for a major championships for the first time since his 2012 heartbreak.

Pozzi suffered a hamstring injury in the 110m hurdles heat at the Olympics five years ago to leave his dreams in tatters and he then missed three outdoor seasons following the Games because of a foot problem.

But after his injury struggles he is now fit – having won European Indoor gold in March – and ran a personal best of 13.14 seconds in Paris last month.

The British team – captained by Eilidh Doyle – is officially finalised on Tuesday, although Pozzi has already been included, and he is now relaxed about his London return.

He said: “It took an awful long time. I didn’t shy away or refuse to talk about Olympics. I limped 109 metres in front of 80,000 people and tens of million watching on TV. That wasn’t a pleasant experience but it happened.

“It’s part of my career. In my life, it was very formative. I went to the Anniversary Games last year and I ran a big PB and enjoyed it. But this isn’t something I’m motivated by – righting the wrongs. I’m past it now. I’ve had other good and bad experiences since then that shaped things.”

A minor hip strain kept the 25-year-old out of the Anniversary Games earlier this month and Pozzi admits every injury always leaves him concerned because of his history.

He said: “Without a doubt. I’d love to say it doesn’t. Because you have some negative experiences in there, which everyone has, you’re slightly more sensitive to anything, even if it’s just muscle tightness from a heavy training block. The key thing is trying to take the advice of the medics and physios and not get too carried away because you might spend your whole life wrapped in cotton wool.”
