It was confirmed yesterday that the club have been saved after a consortium of local businesses acquired its assets.

The new company will now fund and run the English Premier League club, starting immediately with this weekend's games. The table-topping Tigers travel to face Manchester Phoenix tonight before hosting Swindon Wildcats at Telford Ice Rink tomorrow (6pm).

Watkins said: "I think firstly I have to say that this has been an incredibly stressful week for everybody involved.

"For myself, dealing with the players and the staff, and the guys involved in moving the team forwards.

"There has been lots of ups and downs, lots of highs and lows in such a short space of time.

"But to know that there is going to be a club taking to the ice, week in, week out, moving forward, that's the major thing which is an absolutely huge step, a huge positive."

Tigers had been facing liquidation after it was revealed earlier this month that the club had debts of £500,000.

Meanwhile, forward Macaulay Heywood has chosen to leave Telford Tigers.

The 20-year-old came through the Telford junior system, making his senior debut in 2012.

So far this season, Heywood had scored four goals in 23 games.
