Meet our Volunteer of the Year: Peggy Homer

Peggy Homer's grandaughter Louise Fletcher describes her as "the most selfless person I have ever met".

Louise said: "She volunteers for Age concern sorting out day trips for people who attend the clubs, and until recently she used to cook a roast dinner for them every week."

Peggy, who is 76, still arranges fund-raising raffles and every year she takes her tombola to the Madeley lights to raise money.

"She is a qualified accountant by trade so she still does the books for the Madeley day centre and does her best to arrange transport and days out with the money that they have available.

"What more can I say? My nan is one in a million."

Telford FM's Hero Awards celebrate unsung achievements — the people who work behind the scenes making a real difference to the lives of others.

The radio station's listeners have been nominating those volunteers and friendly characters who go the extra mile for the people around them, for no other reason than they care.

Over the weeks listeners have been nominating candidates for the Courage award, Dad of the Year award, Mum of the Year award, Volunteer of the Year award and Neighbour of the Year.

Judges have made their decisions, and Telford FM's Paul Shuttleworth has been making a surprise visit to the winners to present them with their certificate, trophy and a bouquet of flowers.
