Bridgnorth Rugby Football Club (BRFC) will be the venue for Together at Christmas (TAC) on Christmas Day 2024 in its stylish new clubhouse on Bandon Lane.

BRFC chair Karen Sawbridge says: “As two stalwarts of community life in Bridgnorth, this partnership seems a natural marriage. We’re delighted to offer our venue to Together at Christmas free of charge and to showcase our fabulous new clubhouse to new audiences in the town.”

The Christmas initiative was the brainchild of Bridgnorth resident Derek Bartlett over a decade ago. His vision was to bring together people who might find Christmas a difficult time of year, either because they are alone or find themselves in difficult personal circumstances and to give them a free meal in a loving family atmosphere.

It has taken place every year since, variously at Castle Hall and Bridgnorth Endowed School. It even morphed to deliver hot meals to people’s homes on Christmas Day 2020 when Covid lockdown rules prevented gatherings.

TAC is again inviting everyone, especially those who might be on their own or missing a family Christmas, to a free Christmas dinner in a loving family atmosphere on Christmas Day at 12 noon.

TAC lead organiser Mark Triggs says: “This includes singles, couples and families too, all of which goes to create the unique family Christmas that has become so loved by many over the years.

“We are massively indebted to Bridgnorth Endowed School for hosting us in recent years and to all of the other organisations and businesses who make the event possible, including the rugby club, from whom we have borrowed so many things historically. This move negates any need for that.”

BRFC facilities manager Ian George adds: “We pride ourselves on being a big part of the community – and hosting Together at Christmas takes away the need to shift tables, crockery and cutlery across town then back again. It’s a no-brainer, really!”

People wanting to attend the event just need to call 01746 768129 to book their place. And anyone wanting to volunteer to help with organising and preparation, can call Mark Triggs on 07966 037011 or email bridgnorthtac@gmail.com.
