A bit of theatrical history has been made in Oswestry with three generations of an acting family taking to the stage together in a production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Suzannah Smith, a founder member of the Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS), had daughter Rebecca Smith and grand-daughter Amber Owen, aged 10, alongside her in the near sell-out production.

"As far as we know, this is the first time in the LADS' 32-year history that three generations have taken to the stage together," said the play's director Alison Utting.

Suzannah, 68, of Crickheath, has been an active member from the start, appearing in scores of productions as well as working backstage and directing.

Rebecca, 37, first appeared on the Llanymynech stage as a toddler in another Dickens play – Oliver Twist – and has since appeared in many more including a major part in Far From The Madding Crowd.

Both she and Suzannah have won Best Individual Performance awards in Montgomeryshire One-Act Play Festivals. Rebecca has also trodden the boards at the town's Attfield Theatre in Calendar Girls and Sweeney Todd.

For Amber, a pupil at Trefonen Primary School, it's a first - but she says she's loved the experience and is keen to do more acting and follow in the footsteps of her mum and nana.
