The NALC awards are the pinnacle of nationwide recognition for parish and town councils which strive to enrich the lives of residents and enhance local areas.

The awards are designed to recognise and celebrate examples of innovation, dedication, and outstanding achievements delivered by local councils.

Each year, the awards attract a high number of entries. This year, Oswestry Town Council has received the honour of being shortlisted for the coveted Council of the Year Award for its impact, leadership, collaboration and commitment to community.

Other shortlisted nominees:

  • Charlton Kings Parish Council, Gloucestershire
  • Falmouth Town Council, Cornwall
  • Great Linford Parish Council, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
  • Houghton Regis Town Council, Bedfordshire

The Mayor of Oswestry Cllr Mike Isherwood said: “This recognition is testament to the work of my fellow councillors and staff who work so hard to create a better town for our community. I would also like to mention the many partners and community organisations we work with – this is recognition for the town as a whole and not just the council.

“Getting shortlisted for this award is a great achievement in itself. I am delighted and very proud.”

The winners will be announced at a parliamentary reception on 25 February 2025 at the House of Lords.
