This powerful book details her journey through abuse and the systemic failures that left her without support. For four years, my daughter felt trapped in what began as a dream but twisted into a nightmare. Gabriel entered her life like a shining blessing—charming and devoted—leading her to believe she’d found a love straight out of a fairy tale. As a self-assured and joyful single parent, she wasn’t looking to settle down, yet Gabriel knew how to present himself to win her over.

At first, his affection seemed genuine, but she now realised it came with a hidden agenda. His overwhelming love and careful manipulation were all part of a calculated game. The persona he projected was a facade that concealed a man dependent on alcohol and drugs, whose abusive behaviour would maintain control over her. She understood he wasn’t the loving partner she believed him to be. Instead, he was a narcissist bent on stripping away her identity and inflicting psychological distress, all while trying to dictate her children’s lives.

The psychological manipulation and controlling behaviour she faced left her feeling unmoored and questioning her grasp on reality. During this tumultuous time, she found comfort in her role as a nurse. Caring for others empowered her as she navigated daily struggles with those who dismissed the impacts of emotional abuse. Journalism provided a vital outlet for processing her emotions amid constant harassment. It hurt to see those she trusted turn against her, further isolating her and attacking her character. Gabriel warned the situation could lead to suicidal despair, which she feared was his intention. She chose not to let that happen. Her determination to be resilient for her children fuelled her strength. Despite dark days, the thought of escaping a toxic environment gave her the hope she needed.

Through it all, my daughter's primary goal was to protect herself and her children from ongoing abuse and to help others realise their lives matter. As an RAF veteran, she has given more than most to her patients, continuing to go to work and put everyone else first, even as her family, friends, and colleagues see the pain in her eyes.

Her dedication says it all:

To those who suffer in silence,

may you find the strength to speak your truth.

Your pain, your voice,

your life matters.

Through her memoir, she hoped to raise awareness about the critical need for better mental health support and more effective police intervention. She also aimed to inspire others who may be facing similar struggles, showing them that they are not alone and that there is hope for a brighter future.

Her story is a powerful testament to her strength and resilience and her deep commitment to protecting those around her. If the authorities responsible for her safety fail to shield her from a man with an extensive criminal history while perpetuating biased views and demonstrating flaws, it is clear that significant improvements are necessary. After disclosing her situation, she endured some of the most inhumane treatment I have ever witnessed, and unfortunately, this mistreatment continues to this day. Despite these overwhelming challenges, she remains steadfast in her determination to make others listen and to provide the essential support that survivors of abuse desperately need. Sadly, she is fading under the weight of being a victim of police victim-blaming, and as her family, we are deeply concerned about what might come next for her.

"Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt" is available now, and Sister Laura Prince encourages everyone to read her story and advocate for change.
