Originally brought into community ownership in 1984, the centre underwent a major extension and refurbishment in 2004, resulting in it becoming the Best Regional Winner of the West Midlands Market Towns Award for regeneration in 2006. It has evolved as a direct result of the time, dedication, and commitment of many volunteers. Chair of Trustees, Geoff Vernon escorted the Duke throughout the visit.

His Royal Highness met with groups that were undertaking activities there such as Pilates. He saw some of the artwork created in the art classes and visited the state-of-the-art theatre that is used for movies and live events.

The Duke then enjoyed a lunch prepared by the volunteers at this ‘hub of the community’.
