Charity calls on public to donate unwanted Christmas gifts
National palliative care and bereavement charity, Sue Ryder is urging the public to help support its grief support and end-of-life care, by donating any unwanted Christmas gifts.
Whether it’s a scarf that’s not your colour, a gadget you don’t need or a novelty item thrown to the back of a cupboard, the charity is hoping that people will donate any presents they don’t need or want to their local Sue Ryder shop.
Not only will this help with de-cluttering homes after the festive season, but it will help the charity make sure that anyone entering the New Year dealing with bereavement or facing a terminal illness can access the support they need.
To donate, simply deliver goods to your local Sue Ryder shop or if it’s furniture you would like to give, you can also arrange for a free collection via the charity’s website.
The charity has almost 400 shops in high streets, retail parks and shopping centres across the UK, with money raised in-store going towards its hospices, palliative care hubs and range of bereavement services.
Commenting on the benefits of re-gifting festive presents, Anthony Barlow, Senior Regional Manager at Sue Ryder said:
“Christmas is a wonderful time for exchanging gifts, but the reality is, most of us will end up with items that will only end up gathering dust. If you’re still feeling in the gift-giving mood and want to declutter post-Christmas, you can always regift any unwanted presents to Sue Ryder.
“By donating to us, you’ll be doing your bit for the environment, whilst helping the charity support people through the most difficult time of their lives, all the while creating a fresh and cleared home, ready for 2025.
“This New Year, we’re welcoming everything from quality clothes, household goods, electricals, books, toys as well as accessories and collectibles.”
People can donate at their local Sue Ryder shop or by visiting sueryder.org/shop.
