Tenbury High Ormiston Academy students bring cheer to local community
Students from Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, have come together with their local community through sharing a love for music and art.
The school’s talented choir recently joined the Tenbury Town Band at its annual musical event, bringing musical joy to the audience with an incredible performance of well-loved songs.
As part of its wider work with the community, the school also delivered beautiful Christmas cards to care homes and local residents, designed and created by the artistic students. The social action initiatives form part of the school’s curriculum enrichment programme, which provides unique opportunities for students to develop crucial employability skills, character, and confidence as young citizens.
More broadly, the academy have also introduced innovative ‘Curriculum Drop Down Days’ which encourage pupils to learn more about their local heritage and history, as well as experience learning opportunities outside of the classroom. Over the past term, the inquisitive students have visited local areas of interests ranging from Shrewsbury Prison, the Birmingham Think Tank museum, to the University of Gloucestershire, coupled with exciting Maths masterclasses and P.E. competitions which encourage the young learners to explore their local legacy and new personal passions.
Vicki Dean, Principal at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, said: “We are really proud of our community work and are always looking at other ways we can work closely with the local area. It has been so inspiring to see our students get stuck into these initiatives and come together with their heritage and the community, alongside develop all the skills they need to lead happy and successful lives as part of our broad and varied curriculum.”
