Shrewsbury homebuilders pledge funds for equipment at local schools
Barratt and David Wilson Homes have donated £1,050 to Woodfield and St George’s PTFA in Shrewsbury to buy iPads for the students of the two schools.
Located close to the developers’ developments The Lilies and Rose Place, Woodfield Infant School and St George’s Junior School have bought four iPads for their students following the contribution.
The PTFA was on the verge of closing down when several volunteers stepped up to form a new committee across the two schools. Today, it has a committee of six people who work to raise money to extend the school’s provisions and enhance the learning environment for the children.
The schools run on very tight budgets which doesn’t allow a lot of scope for additional facilities and makes it harder to provide those provisions and enriching experiences for the students.
Pru Allison, Co-Chair of the Woodfield and St George’s PTFA, said: “When a company like Barratt and David Wilson Homes steps up to help it gives us a huge helping hand to provide the equipment and experiences which will help the children’s educational journey thrive.
“It’s fantastic to see a business making a difference in the community where it operates. The provision of iPads is integral to our kids’ learning but a huge outlay for the school or the PTFA. Both we and the schools are enormously grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for their fabulous generosity and care for the local community.”
The donated iPads will enhance learning in school by providing interactive and engaging educational apps that cater to the pupils' developmental stages.
They will also offer opportunities for personalised learning, allowing children to work at their own pace and improve their digital literacy skills from an early age.
Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We are happy to support Woodfield and St George’s PTFA, and we hope the school can utilise the iPads to assist the students’ educational journeys.”
Helen Lewis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are always looking for community organisations and opportunities to support local to our developments, and we are so pleased with the result of this donation to help the pupils at Woodfield Infant School and St George’s Junior School.”
