Future Ready Home Shrewsbury: Filling the ‘skills gap’
The retrofit experts at Shrewsbury-based charity, Marches Energy Agency, have pulled together a really exciting new project.
Householders across Shropshire wanting to improve the energy efficiency of their homes through retrofit are coming across a huge challenge – a lack of skilled experienced tradespeople and professionals to do the work.
So, Marches Energy Agency is working on filling this ‘skills gap’ – with hands on training at the Future Ready Home, Shrewsbury.
Students from Shrewsbury College are working with staff, expert contractors, and Connexus to transform a vacant property at White Lodge Park into a dream low-carbon home fit for the future. They are learning the skills they need for retrofit in a real-life setting - insulating, making airtight, and installing green technologies such as heat pumps and solar panels.
Regular workshops and open days will be held on site so you can see up close what improvements are being made, and even get involved. There will be training sessions such as how to use a thermal imaging camera to find thermal weaknesses, and how an EPC assessment is carried out. You can find them on Marches Energy Agency’s Eventbrite page. The first event for your diary is a webinar ‘Are Heat Pumps any good?’ on Monday, 27 January at 1pm, reserve a spot at: AreHeatPumpsAnyGood.eventbrite.co.uk
Huge thanks to Connexus for making the property, the Future Ready Home Shrewsbury, available for this valuable project.
