A man suffered 'potentially serious injuries' in a crash involving a car and a tractor.

The crash took place on the A525 Newcastle Road between Onneley and Woore just before 7pm last night.

The road has remained closed into the morning rush hour between Gravenhunger Lane and Aston Lane as investigation work continues.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a number of crews were sent to the scene.

They added that a man had suffered 'potentially serious injuries' in the crash.

A spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of Aston Lane and Newcastle Road in Woore, Crewe just after 6.30pm.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, North Staffordshire BASICS emergency doctor and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford were sent to the scene whilst a Community First Responder was also in attendance.

"On arrival, crews found a car and a tractor had been involved in a collision. A man was treated by medics for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

A message on AA Roadwatch this morning said: "Road closed due to crash investigation work on A525 Newcastle Road Eastbound from Gravenhunger Lane to Aston Lane.

The collision follows on from a serious collision on the A5 near Oswestry, which happened around 6.10pm.

Staffordshire Police have been contacted for a comment.
