AFC Telford United strike duo would worry anyone - boss

Kevin Wilkin believes AFC Telford United forwards Ricardo Dinanga and Matty Stenson have struck a partnership that will ‘worry’ any team in the Southern Central Premier.

The duo have 14 league goals between them this season, with Stenson’s eight goals in 11 league games marking his best record as a Telford player, while Dinanga’s six strikes put him one goal behind his 2023/24 total already.

Both netted in last weekend’s 2-0 win at Leiston, and their manager is delighted to see two players sharing the goal scoring burden for the Bucks this season.

“It’s nice when goals are shared around, and it’s nice when players take responsibility and understand who we look to when it comes to sticking the ball in the back of the net,” Wilkin said. “Ideally everyone will chip in at some stage with a goal or two, but the reason Ricardo and Stenno play across the front for us is because of how capable they are of scoring goals.”

He continued: “Where the fashion of football is nowadays you’re seeing a lot of teams taking risks to try and outscore the other team, and while that’s not necessarily how we want to set up and play it is nice when you’re scoring goals.

“We are creating plenty of chances and moments, and we’ll endeavour to continue to do so.

“If our opposition are wary of players’ individual skill sets and are worried about who to mark there is only so far you can spread 11 players, and if people end up doubling up on one or both of them it can create space and time elsewhere.

“Certainly with Ricardo and Stenno teams will be wary of them scoring goals, and we do expect them to be doubled up on in certain cases.”
